It
is our desire to impart current, evidence-based information,
focusing on the normal healthy
processes of
pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding
|
|
If this is your 1st, 2nd (or more) baby, and you have not given birth without medication, or you are delivering in a birth center or at home, our full 20 hours course is essential for your skills development, as well as offering you additional instruction in the many supportive comfort techniques and relaxation aids beneficial for pain management.
Classroom instruction includes - lecture, couple and group
discussion,
question and answer sessions,
viewing videos / DVD's, models & charts,
couple participation with breathing, relaxation, and fitness
techniques;
massage techniques, acupressure, demonstration - return demonstration
(seen below) of comfort measures, and many other participant focused
activities during the class time.

The techniques learned in these classes are designed to 'build' on
each other,
and therefore attendance at all classes is beneficial
for optimal utilization
of comfort skills necessary for labor and birth.
"Homework" in the form of practicing relaxation together, reading
and discussing additional
materials, preparing a Birth Plan, touring
the birth facility, etc. is expected
during periods between classes.
The necessary acquisition of skills can then
be attained to manage
the typical challenges often presented by labor and birth.
Natural Beginnings' Childbirth Educators have the most teaching
experience
in the Dallas area. Linda and Sharon are trained, certified
and are affiliated with The Bradley Method® of natural childbirth.

Linda Worzer, AAHCC - instructing students on the stages of labor
Our education plan is designed to empower parents to make informed
decisions about pregnancy,
labor & birth, focusing on a woman's innate
ability to give birth, non-pharmacological
pain management strategies,
and preparation for confidence and skills in managing breastfeeding and
early parenting techniques.
|
Classes are kept small and intimate, and are held in the private
homes of our instructors. This enables us to focus on your individual needs, answer questions and to help individualize student birthing plans.
When our posted classes show class closed, that indicates a full class
with no available openings. You can check with the instructor in case of last minute cancellations, however, class size is limited for your benefit.
Please choose a class that ENDS at least two weeks before your
estimated due date (which is often inaccurate) and
register early!
Occasionally, class dates are subject to change.

These testimonials were graciously offered from a childbirth class client
and a local doula. Scroll down for a childbirth class client's birth story.
" I was skeptical that I would gain $300 worth of knowledge upon
entering Linda’s class. However, now that we have completed the
course and have a one month old, I realize that the classes were
worth EVERY penny.
Linda’s knowledge and expertise are invaluable and we implemented
as many of her suggestions as possible during labor and during post
partum. The teaching Linda imparts is easily applied and so helpful
when going through the actual experiences taught in class.
Both my husband and I felt much more confident in ourselves and
each other during labor which helped us to work together without
added stress. ... Sarah Owen - new parent

A BIRTH STORY:
....." Our sweet new baby was born Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 3:37 a.m.
He weighed 8 lbs. 1.5 oz. and was 20 ½ inches long.
Before his birth we had an unexpected experience. My Ob/Gyn, who told me
several times he was on board with a natural labor and delivery, decided at 39
weeks he wanted to prescribe a cervical softener and amniotomy one day before
my due date. He could provide us with no medical reason, so we refused. He
responded that I was going against his recommendation and, as he was going
on vacation, I would have to come up with my own secondary plan. We perceive
he was recommending a “social induction” because he would be unavailable to
let the labor timeline progress naturally.
This was stressful, but I quickly consulted my primary care physician to find another Ob/Gyn. I saw my new OB and his initial assessment was that I was not favorable to
an induction – it would have likely ended up as a caesarian! However, he wanted me
to stop work and rest because my blood pressure was up. I began staying home
about a week before my due date.
One week and a day after my due date, I went into labor. My labor contractions began at 2 ½ min. apart, 30 sec duration at 11 p..m; and within 20 mins, the duration increased to 60 secs. Thanks to your classes, we recognized this was not the normal course of events (where was 1st stage, 1st phase?) and with 2nd phase progressing
rapidly we called our doctor after an hour, around midnight.
He advised us to go to the hospital immediately. I had a rapid labor, only 4 ½ hours total. I went from 50% effaced and 3 cm dilated during the initial exam at 1am , to 100% effaced and 10 cm. dilated by shortly after 3 a.m. My water broke around 2:30 a.m. I pushed for about 15 minutes (5 contractions) & our baby was born at 3:37 a.m.
He was born vaginally and naturally, without pain medication. The Bradley method classes and prenatal yoga classes really helped me to focus and deal with the pain.
I will say the labor and delivery nurse was not supportive of my choice to have a natural birth or closely follow a birth plan, and informed us that we were at the wrong hospital
if we wanted a Bradley® birth.
However, due to the rapid labor, we were never able to request another nurse. Interestingly, the maternity and nursery nurses and staff commented on how alert our baby was compared to the other babies. He really took to nursing and they hinted it was probably because he had not been exposed to any medications.
Now our new
baby is really doing well and at one week is above his birth weight.
Thank you for all of your help and the very informative classes; which enabled us to make better decisions for me and our baby.
Please feel free to share our experience with your students as we really appreciated and benefitted from the stories you shared.
