CHOICES: Find the Pump that is right for you!
Only you can decide which type of pump is right for
you and your situation. For further assistance in making your decision, discuss
your individual needs with an experienced
Lactation Consultant.
The time
required for emptying the breasts by a pump, and
the amount of milk removed, are dependent on several factors:
1) speed of mothers' let-down reflex,
2) breast shield fit for the invidividual mother,
3) effectiveness of the pump.
(A breast pump's effectiveness is determined by
both the
pump's number of cycles per minute,
and the pump's strength of vacuum compression). |
|
? MOTHERS,
WILL YOU BE...
|
...A
Stay-at-home mom? Every nursing mother does not need a breast pump.
If you are a stay-at-home mom, a breast pump may not be necessary at all,
especially if you learn to hand-express your milk.
| |
...Returning
to Work? Mothers who will be working out- side
the home full-time usually are looking for a breast pump that is quick (able to
double-pump) and efficient.
| |
...Pumping
Occasionally? Women
who need to use a pump every now and then usually want a method that's effective
but also relatively inexpensive.
| |
...Experiencing
Breastfeeding Difficulties? If
you are having problems with breastfeeding it's important to have an efficient
breast pump while getting professional help, to help preserve your milk supply.
| |
...Do
You Offer Your Baby Only Your Expressed Breast Milk? When
solely expressing, it is important to choose a very effective breast pump
so that your milk supply will not be compromised.
